JÁNOŠÍČEK

Children's folkloric group

It is a group with a 20-year tradition. There are almost 90 children members. The group has a special programme, since, although based in the South Moravia, it deals with the vivacious Slovakian folklore in rich dancing choreographies. Thus, it is one of the few opportunities for children to get to know and understand the Slovakian language in the natural form of games, chants, songs and speech. The material is collected from different Slovakian regions of Myjava, Liptov, Terchová, Horehroní, Detva, Zemplín. Cimbalom music, which accompanies singers and dancers at their performances, is a part of the community.

The group represented the city of Brno and the UoD at international festivals like the Europeade festival in Rennes, France, Bayreuth, Germany, Horsen, Denmark and Antverp, Belgium, as well as at festivals in Sweden, Spain, Lithuania, Italy, Turkey, and international fair-trades in Paris and Rennes. Participation at the Wasshoi festival in Osaka, Japan in 2000 was a big success for the group, since it was the only representative of the Czech Republic. The group often performs at various social events of the UoD.
