The international Baltic Defence College commandant and dean paid a visit to the University of Defence this week. Brigadier General Gundars Abols and doctor James S. Corum came to exchange information of officers military education system and offer and learn the options of cooperation between the two schools.
Unlike the University of Defence, Baltic Defence College is not a university with accredited studies. Its main mission is to provide officers high standard military training according to NATO standards and the needs of the Baltic states. Besides military personnel, it trains also civil servants from security and defence institutions of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. An example of College's international character is its deployment in Tartu (Estonia) while is head is of Latvian nationality.
General Abols accepted University of Defence rector's invitation to visit and observe the international championships of Winter Survival 2010 in the Hruby Jesenik Mountains.
