Department of Mechanical Engineering

The Department of Mechanical Engineering is a part of the Faculty of Military Technology of the University of Defence which is located in Brno.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering has eleven science-teaching staff. Among them are tree full professors, five associated professors, and four assistant professors.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering guarantees the full-time and combined forms of study in Bachelor’s and Master’s study programmes and the follow up Master study in branch “Materials and Technology of Special Industry”. Students are educated in the branch of study “Material and Technology of Special Industry”, in doctoral study as well. The Department of Mechanical Engineering is qualified to educate foreign military and civilian professionals in engineering courses and also offers doctoral study programmes for foreign students.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering is focused on the area of engineering and material science. The department consists of two independent special groups. The first is the “Group of Material Science” offering the education in material engineering. It provides civilian and military study programmes including doctoral study. Our Ph.D. students are prepared in the branch of study “Material science”.
The second is the “Group of Engineering Technologies and Mechanics”, which is focused on providing the education in branches of industrial technologies, metrology, management of quality, engineering mechanics and stress analysis, elasticity and strength, machine elements, thermodynamics, and fluid mechanics.
Scientific research activities of the Group of Material Science is focused on the research of special surfaces created by plasma nitridation and PVD technologies, processes of fatigue of material of machine components and evaluation of mechanical properties after heat-treatment procedures.
The Group of Engineering Technologies and Mechanics is focused on the hot forming, cold forming, foundry field especially in the area of special foundry technologies, welding, soldering and brazing, thermit coating and special technologies, quality after machining, evaluation of surface quality and engineering metrology, strength and stress analysis of structures based on mathematical finite elements method, problems of applied thermodynamics, simulation in fluid mechanics, combustion and burning.
Recently
new modern laboratories have been developed and equipped. Two special technical workers provide maintenance of laboratory facilities.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering has established a partnership with industrial companies in the Czech Republic and abroad, it has become a recognised institution in the field of science and research. We closely cooperate with the Academy of Science of the Czech Republic; research a development centres and civilian universities as the Brno TU, CTU Prague, TU Pardubice, TU Ostrava, TU Trenčín, SUT Bratislava from Czech and Slovak Republic and NTU Singapore in abroad. We have cooperated with many institutes in solution of many scientific problems during research and development in the area of material engineering, wound ballistics, fluid mechanics or computational methods of stress analysis.
Specialists from the Department of Mechanical Engineering created professional expertises and analysis of vehicle elements during the investigation of traffic accidents military or civil vehicles, machines or mechanism generally. The teaching staff of the Department of Mechanical Engineering is regularly attending in degree and doctoral boards of examiners.
