Roman Chlibek graduated from Charles University, the Faculty of Medicine and the Military Medical Academy in Hradec Kralove and received MD degree in 1989. He began his professional career as an adult general practitioner and since 1995 he has devoted his efforts to epidemiology of infectious diseases and preventive medicine at the Department of Epidemiology of the Faculty of Military Health Sciences. In 2000 he defended his dissertation in Epidemiology (PhD) and since 2006 he has been an associate professor in the branch of Hygiene, Preventive Medicine and Epidemiology. Currently he has been serving as the head of the Department of Epidemiology and simultaneously as the Dean of the Faculty of Military Health Sciences.
His practical and scientific work is focused above all on vaccinology, he is a recognized expert in the Czech Republic and abroad in the field of vaccination and clinical studies aimed at the development of new vaccines and their putting into practice. He is a principal investigator of many international clinical studies of vaccines. He participated in the development and evaluation of vaccines against e.g. Lyme disease, viral hepatitis, herpes zoster, group B meningoccoci and many others. He is a member of the Czech Republic National Immunization Committee (NIKO), a member of the Committee of the Czech Vaccinology Association of the Czech Medical Association of J.E. Purkyně, a member of the Central European Vaccine Advisory Group (CEVAG) and he has been working in European working groups for pertussis. The results of his research work have been published in 108 domestic as well as foreign special publications and presented at 304 domestic and foreign conferences.
