Study program: Career education of army professionals

Branch: Senior Officers Course

Study duration: 10 months

Teaching period: 2008-2009 (ISDS), 29 students

Who teaches special courses: Institute of Strategic and Defence Studies (ISDS), Department of social sciences and law FEM, Department of Air Force FMT, Department of AD Systems FMT, and external teachers.

Course intention: Intended for captains selected for promotion to the rank of major holding a master’s degree. It teaches knowledge of a special military character, military management, military history, military strategy, strategic art, tactics and combat arms operational engagement in missions of various types and administration and law knowledge and skills.


Special courses and their brief description:

Social Science Aspects of Competence Formation of Army Proffesionals

Objective: By means of selected problem areas to aid in further development of creative thinking of army professionals as the basis for understanding the current and futures challenges and needs related to securing the defence of a state, including a high quality fulfilment of ally obligations within NATO.

 

National Security and Defence Policy

Objective: The course participants will be capable of better orientation in the problem of developing and executing national security and defence policy. They will acquire broader understanding of its international context and the nature of its institutional, legislative, social, and political framework.

 

Building up of Armed Forces

Objective: By means of selected subject areas to familiarize the course participants with the latest knowledge in planning theory and modern methods of planning support, and teach them to apply the theoretical planning approach in the circumstances of defence planning of MoD. The subject will explain the problem of legals status of Czech Armed Forces, the aspects of function of the state administration, personnel and career management  in AČR, the problem of armament of the armed forces, structure of the crisis management of the state and armed forces and the policies of development and preparation of AČR to achieve the required abilities.

 

Military Art

Objective: To expand the knowledge of officers in the area of operational art and military strategy and with the focus on understanding the historical context and experience from armed conflicts. To expand their knowledge in tactics. To adopt basic principles and policies of present-day combat and operational use of armed forces both, on an international level in the intentions of military publications of NATO’s AJP principles, and on a national level in the scope of the Doctrine of the Armed Forces of the Czech Republic and other doctrines of a lower degree. 

 

Army Command and Control

Objective: To explain the participants the problem of command and control in AČR/NATO/EU-BG. To achieve unified understanding of the C4ISR (Command, Control, Communication, Computer, Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance) system. To explain the planning and control policies of the military-expert preparation and training according to NATO standards.

 

Support and Security of Military Action

Objective: To explain the course participants the task, possibilities and policies of using the combat support forces in providing fire support and other forms of support for combat forces. To achieve understanding of policies of providing fire support and general security of army activities in both, combat and non-combat operations.

 

Employment of Forces Branches

Objective: To expand the knowledge and and making the participant familiar with the tasks and specialities of control and usage of ground forces, air forces and support forces, and relations among them.
