The department’s scientific-research activities correlate with the orientation of the educational activities orientation and they are primarily focused on the applied research area. In agreement with the needs of the development in an integrated approach to the topic of state security, the attention is given to population protection and crisis management areas and increasing environmental security. In many cases the research is realized in coordination both with outside national and international partners, mainly while solving the project of the 7th Framework Programme EC in pilot studies NATO/SPSC (Science for Peace and Security Committee).
The department concentrates on solving projects belonging mainly to the faculty research project framework named Military and Economic Aspects of Professional Czech Army Building in following areas:
- Improving environmental security at the developed NATO armies level and making conditions for conducting effective risks responses,
- Logistic support of non-military crisis situations,
- Interoperability at terminal system interfaces of crisis staffs,
- Regional risks management.
The Department’s members take part in solving the project “CAST” of the 7th European Committee’s Framework Programme in the area of the security research which is oriented on the improvement of the emergency management in crisis situations. Other research activities were oriented to the dangerous substances transport (Defence Research Project of MoD, 2002-2005).
The department staff participate in the long run in solving NATO pilot studies in the environmental and food security, mainly NATO/CPCP (Committee on the Challenges to Modern Society) Managing Effective Risk Response: an Ecological Approach (2003-2005) and NATO/SPCP and U.S. EPA. Clean Products and Processes. II. Phase (2003-2008).
